Georgia, US committed to expanding mutually beneficial trade relations

As part of his official visit to the United States, Levan Davitashvili, Georgia’s First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, met with Silvia Savich, the Deputy Assistant to the United States Trade Representative.
The parties discussed key priorities in the trade relationship between Georgia and the United States. The Georgian side proposed holding a high-level dialogue on investment and trade to provide a platform for in-depth discussions on bilateral trade and investment-related matters.
Davitashvili emphasised that trade turnover between Georgia and the US had shown steady annual growth. In 2024, the US ranked as Georgia's third-largest trading partner, accounting for approximately 9 percent of total trade.
The Minister also noted that Georgia was not only an important trading partner for the US but also serves as a hub for redistributing American-exported goods to other countries in the region.
He noted that Georgia was not only a significant trade partner for the US, but also was playing a vital role as a regional hub for the distribution of American exports, particularly light vehicles and certain agricultural products, to Central Asia and other neighbouring regions. In 2024 alone, Georgia facilitated the re-export of vehicles worth $940 million.
The discussion also touched upon the tariff policies of the new US administration. Both sides agreed to continue exchanging information on this topic. Davitashvili stated that recent tariff changes in the US were expected to have minimal impact on Georgian exports.
In conclusion, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening mutually beneficial trade relations and expressed readiness to actively pursue new opportunities for economic cooperation
