Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Sunday congratulated the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on the victory of the ruling Georgian Dream party in the parliamentary elections and invited him to Azerbaijan.
In his remarks, Aliyev noted that Georgian citizens had expressed their support for “the country’s development, stability and traditional values”.
“I heartily congratulate you on the results of the parliamentary elections held in Georgia and the victory of the ruling political force of your country, the Georgian Dream party. With this voting, Georgian citizens expressed their support for development, stability and traditional values”, the statement said.
“I believe that the results of the elections will serve the comprehensive development and prosperity of Georgia. At the same time, I express my belief that the results of the elections will contribute to the sustainable development of relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia, which is dictated by the will of our people, who have historically lived in conditions of friendship, brotherhood and good neighbourliness, and to further strengthening the positions of our countries in the South Caucasus [region] and wider geography”, the statement noted.
The Central Election Commission of Georgia on Sunday updated the preliminary results of the parliamentary elections. The ruling Georgian Dream party is leading with 54.273 percent (1,114, 926) of votes. The results are based on the data counted from 3,085 out of 3,111 polling stations.
