As part of her visit to New Delhi, Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Wednesday held a meeting with her Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
The meeting focused on the active and growing dynamics of bilateral relations between Georgia and India, the Georgian foreign office said.
The officials explored ways to strengthen cooperation to better utilise the existing potential between the two nations.
The ministers emphasised the importance of high-level political dialogue and discussed the exchange of bilateral visits and the activation of intergovernmental formats, and further agreed to hold meetings in the near future within the frameworks of political consultations and economic commissions.
Discussions also covered the development of relations in various sectors, with a focus on strengthening trade and economic ties, fostering closer relations between business circles, and enhancing cooperation in education, people-to-people exchanges, and tourism. The ministers positively assessed the increased frequency of direct flights by Indian airline IndiGo, which contributes to deeper people-to-people connections.
The parties highlighted the significance of signing the free trade agreement between Georgia and India, viewing it as a step forward in boosting trade and economic dynamics.
The Georgian Foreign Minister welcomed the opening of India’s resident Embassy in Tbilisi, noting that Georgia looked forward to the arrival of India’s first resident Ambassador, which would further deepen bilateral relations.
The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation and to maximising the partnership potential between the countries.
