Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Tuesday said the promotion of peace and stability in the South Caucasus region - with particular emphasis on the growing geopolitical significance of the Middle Corridor - had been discussed during his meeting with Numan Kurtulmuş, the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

In his remarks, Papuashvili noted that the friendship between Georgia and Turkey was based on strong neighborly relations, which had evolved into a solid and multifaceted strategic partnership.

He also mentioned that in today’s turbulent reality, the relationship between the two countries, founded on mutual respect and trust and growing stronger year by year - was especially valuable.

“At today’s meeting, we discussed a number of important issues, including the deepening of parliamentary ties, as well as cooperation in the fields of economy, energy, and education. We emphasised our shared vision for promoting peace and stability in the [South] Caucasus region, with particular focus on the growing geopolitical significance of the Middle Corridor”, the Parliament Speaker said.

“The Middle Corridor is a symbol of our shared future - strengthening economic links between Europe and Asia, ensuring regional cooperation, energy security, digital connectivity, and sustainable development. We consider Turkey a key partner in fully realizing the potential of this route”, he noted.

Papuashvili further emphasised that the officials also noted the importance of further developing people-to-people ties, including cultural and educational exchanges.

“Once again, I reaffirm my full readiness to strengthen inter-parliamentary dialogue, which will positively impact our bilateral relations. Friendship groups operating in both legislative bodies will also continue active cooperation”, he said.

The Parliament Speaker also spoke about the need to enhance efforts to support regional stability and thanked his Turkish counterpart for the warm reception.
