Mamuka Mdinaradze, the Executive Secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday claimed the country needed to be freed from domestic radical opposition as well as the United States needed to be freed from the deep state.
In his remarks, Mdinaradze claimed there was operating the radical opposition in the country, which committed many crimes against the country and the Georgian people during its time in power between 2003 and 2012.
“Since 2012, this political force [United National Movement opposition] has been acting as a devastating [force] in Georgian politics, openly opposing Georgia's national interests and creating a decisive obstacle to the establishment of a healthy political system in Georgia. Moreover, given the nature of this political force, it is clear that in the theoretical event of returning to power, it will inevitably commit the same crimes with renewed energy”, Mdinaradze said.
“The United States President-elect Donald Trump has announced the fight against the deep state. There is a radical opposition in Georgia, which is embedded in the political system of our country and is managed by the deep state. This is a group of slaves formed by the deep state, which, as the rules of the deep state itself stipulate, blindly serves the whims of their patrons. Accordingly, Georgia also needs to be freed from the radical opposition in exactly the same way as the United States needs to be freed from the deep state”, he continued.
He said a temporary investigative commission would be established in the Georgian Parliament to investigate activities of the former United National Movement “regime” and its officials between 2003 and 2012.
Mdinaradze noted that the commission would work for six months and prepare a report for Parliament’s review and approval in the first session week of September, and further emphasised that the approved report would be submitted to the Georgian Prosecutor’s Office and other relevant authorities for further action to ensure accountability according to the Georgian legislation.
