Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Monday said Georgia was an independent country, and under the ruling Georgian Dream Government, no one would succeed in enslaving it and turning it into a colony.

In his remarks, Kaladze noted that the ruling team would not take a step that would sacrifice the country’s interests.

“Georgia is an independent country. Some people are trying to enslave our country and turn it into a colony, no one will succeed. At least, under the Georgian Dream’s Government. We are defending the gains that our previous generations ensured with blood – this is the independence and sovereignty of the country. We will not give anyone the opportunity to sacrifice my country and our people for the interests of their country” Kaladze said.

Kaladze further added that partnership should be mutual and expressed his hope that “under the new [United States] administration, the relationship [between the two countries] will be rebooted, there will be real friendship and a truly strategic relationship will be established”.

Kaladze also noted that sanctioning members of the Georgian Government simply was an element of blackmail.
