Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Saturday outlined an ambitious goal for the country to rank amongst Europe’s top three nations in terms of low corruption, emphasising the critical role of the State Security Service in this effort.

In his remarks, Kobakhidze highlighted that combating crime, including corruption, was a top priority for his Government.

“Combating crime in general is one of our Government’s top priorities, and our agencies have become particularly active in this direction over the past few months. This includes organised crime, drug-related crimes, and the carrying of weapons by individuals. We will maintain a very principled position on all these matters, and the fight against crime will continue with determination. One such crime, of course, is corruption”, the PM said.

The Prime Minister specifically praised Mamuka Mdinaradze, the newly appointed Head of Georgia’s State Security Service, for prioritising anti-corruption efforts since taking office.

“I would like to thank Mr. Mamuka Mdinradze for placing a special emphasis on this issue upon taking office. Naturally, we will be absolutely principled and uncompromising in this direction as well. The fight against corruption will continue very actively”, he noted.

He reaffirmed his Government’s determination to continue the fight against corruption vigorously, mobilising all relevant agencies to achieve the goal of positioning Georgia as a leader in low corruption across Europe.

“We have a very ambitious goal - to rank amongst the top three in Europe in terms of low corruption. This requires the mobilisation of all agencies, especially the State Security Service, and I would like to once again thank the State Security Service and its head for actively starting work in this direction”, the Prime Minister concluded.
