Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday credited the Georgian Dream government’s strategic policy with securing 14 years of continuous peace, transforming Georgia into a leader in economic growth across Europe, and establishing the highest level of national sovereignty in the country's modern history.
Speaking during a televised debate on Rustavi 2, the head of Government emphasised that the Georgian Dream government is the first since the restoration of Georgia's independence under which the country has not experienced war.
Kobakhidze strongly highlighted the crucial role of Bidzina Ivanishvili in achieving these results, describing him as a grandmaster of navigating complex political landscapes, and asserted that political success must always be measured by tangible results.
The Prime Minister contrasted the Georgian Dream government’s achievements with the record of the previous administration. He noted that despite the extensive rhetoric labeling the former government as pro-Western and pro-national, their foreign policy actions resulted in the loss of 20 percent of Georgia’s territories, war, subsequent Russian recognition of those occupied regions, and the transfer of strategic economic assets to Russian companies.
Kobakhidze summarised the legacy of the previous leadership as one defined by territorial loss, economic expansion by external forces, war, and destruction.
In sharp contrast, Kobakhidze maintained that the Georgian Dream government’s balanced approach has delivered 14 years of uninterrupted peace and strong economic performance. He stated that over the past five years, Georgia has ranked first in economic growth rates not only within the wider region but across Europe as a whole. The Prime Minister declared that through these consistent policies, Georgia has consolidated its sovereignty and is currently more independent and sovereign than ever before.
Addressing domestic political debates, the Prime Minister noted that critics frequently focus on the past regarding corruption because they are unable to point to issues in the present. Taking full accountability, Kobakhidze offered a strict guarantee to the public concerning the government’s integrity.
He concluded by pledging that if anyone brings forward a single factual instance of corruption linked directly or indirectly to him or any government minister over the past year or in the future, the administration will take immediate action and enforce swift accountability.
