Georgian President announces elevation of Georgia–China relations to comprehensive strategic partnership

Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Tuesday addressed Chinese President Xi Jinping in a formal letter announcing the elevation of bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, marking a new stage in Georgia–China cooperation.

In his letter marking the 34th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Georgia and China, Kavelashvili highlighted the steady development of ties between the two countries and emphasised that the new strategic partnership would further deepen cooperation across multiple sectors.

“Your Excellency. I extend my sincere congratulations and best wishes to Your Excellency and to the friendly people of the People's Republic of China on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries. This important milestone provides an excellent opportunity to reflect upon the remarkable progress achieved in relations between Georgia and the People's Republic of China over the past three decades and to celebrate the enduring friendship that has been cultivated through mutual respect, trust, and constructive cooperation”, Kavelashvili said.

The President noted that Georgia attaches great importance to its relationship with China and remains committed to expanding cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, connectivity, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

“Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Georgia and China have steadily strengthened their partnership and expanded cooperation across a wide range of areas, including trade, investment, connectivity, culture, education, and people-to-people exchanges. Through our joint efforts, our bilateral relations have continued to develop dynamically, yielding tangible results and creating new opportunities for cooperation”, he noted.

Kavelashvili emphasised that upgrading relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership would create broader and more meaningful avenues for cooperation, benefiting both countries.

“Georgia highly values its relationship with the People's Republic of China and remains committed to further deepening our partnership and expanding bilateral cooperation in pursuit of a prosperous, advanced, and sustainable future for our countries and peoples. It is particularly gratifying that, on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of diplomatic relations, we have the honour to announce our joint decision to elevate Georgia-China relations to the level of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. I am confident that this important step will create broader opportunities for cooperation between our countries, bringing greater benefits to both nations and further strengthening the friendship and ties between our peoples”, the President stressed.
