PM highlights Georgia's infrastructure development milestone at opening of bypass road in western city of Zestafoni

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday highlighted the completion of the bypass road including 4 tunnels and 11 bridges in Georgia’s western city of Zestafoni, a significant part of Georgia's highway project.
Kobakhidze highlighted the positive impact of these developments on local communities, citing reduced travel times, enhanced safety measures, and economic opportunities generated by improved infrastructure.
“As you know, a 27-kilometre section of the Rikoti highway was opened last year, which our residents and our guests already use, seriously reducing travel time. A 9-kilometre and a 4-lane Zestafoni bypass road has been opened today. In this section alone, 4 tunnels were carved, 11 bridges were built, and very large-scale works were carried out. This is a new infrastructure created on the basis of modern technologies, which complies with environmental standards and is distinguished by a high degree of safety, reducing the travel time by about half an hour on this section alone. Therefore, this will benefit, of course, our residents and visitors, and it is very important news for our country”, Kobakhidze noted.
Kobakhidze further emphasised the significance of the East-West highway, of which the Zestafoni bypass is a part, in facilitating transit and trade routes through Georgia.
“All this will contribute to the essential development of the transit function of our country, which is essential for ensuring the economic progress of our country. These projects also bring life to the region, which is manifested not only in reduced travel time, but also in comfortable and safe travel, as well as in the economic benefits that these projects bring to the population of our region”, he concluded.
