Air China has started operating in Georgia’s aviation market

United Airports of Georgia on Monday announced that Air China had started operating in the domestic aviation market.
The statement said that the airline performed its first direct flight from Urumqi to Tbilisi International Airport late at night on a BOEING 737-800, with 98 passengers aboard, while 121 passengers departed from Tbilisi to China.
A welcome event was held at Tbilisi International Airport for the first passengers and airline representatives organised by TAV Georgia.
After the introduction of visa-free travel between the two countries, interest from Chinese airlines towards Georgia has increased.
United Airports of Georgia is in active discussions with Air China to launch direct regular flights between the capitals of Georgia and China.
“One of the largest Chinese airlines, Air China, has started operating in the Georgian aviation market, having completed its first flight from Urumqi to Tbilisi. Currently, flights between Urumqi and Tbilisi will be operated three times a week, and depending on demand, the airline is ready to increase the frequency of operations. The airline is also considering starting direct flights between the capitals of China and Georgia. After China Southern, Air China is the second airline to operate in Georgia's aviation market”, said Vako Chilashvili, the head of the Commercial Department of the United Airports of Georgia.
