Kazakh airline Air Astana is set to introduce a new route connecting Atyrau and Tbilisi, operating three times a week from May 27. The launch of this new flight highlights the growing demand from Kazakh tourists for Georgia’s tourism offerings.

Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, on Thursday said that the addition of the Atyrau-Tbilisi route was underscoring the increasing interest of Kazakh travelers in visiting Georgia.

“Kazakhstan is one of the fastest-growing tourism markets for Georgia. We have been actively promoting our country to attract even more tourists from Kazakhstan. Last year was particularly successful in terms of Kazakh visitor arrivals”, the Deputy Minister said.

“It is encouraging that Air Astana and FlyArystan operate at both Tbilisi and Kutaisi international airports, and now we are adding a new destination from Atyrau. This demonstrates the growing demand for Georgian tourism products among Kazakh travelers”, she continued.

In 2024, Georgia welcomed 178,930 international visitors from Kazakhstan, with Kazakh airlines accounting for 3.9% of the country’s aviation market share.

“The introduction of a new route and increased flight frequencies by a Kazakh airline is a direct response to rising demand. This will further boost tourist flows, increase tourism-related spending, and support small, medium, and large enterprises in the sector”, Kvrivishvili noted.

Additionally, Air Astana will operate direct flights from Almaty to Tbilisi nine times per week during the summer season, with twice-daily flights on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Seasonal Almaty-Batumi flights will resume in June with three weekly frequencies, potentially increasing to five in July and August. The airline will also restart Tbilisi-Astana flights in June, operating three times a week.
