Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said the country's key achievements - including maintaining peace, preventing further territorial losses, and halting what he described as economic intervention - were the result of the government's principled and pragmatic foreign policy.
In his remarks at the legislative body, Kobakhidze summarised his government's approach to foreign policy, stating that it encompassed relations with the European Union, the United States, Central Asia, China, and neighbouring countries.
“I addressed all the key areas covered by the country's foreign policy, including European integration, the United States, Central Asia, China, and our neighbourhood. I touched upon every major direction, and everything that needed to be said was stated accordingly”, he said.
The Prime Minister argued that Georgia's current stability and progress were the product of a foreign policy that combined pragmatism with firm adherence to national principles.
“As for our pragmatic policy, it is both pragmatic and principled at the same time. We have firmly defended our red lines, which are primarily related to the issue of occupation. Everything we can be proud of today is the result of this principled and pragmatic policy. We are, in fact, the first government since the 1990s under whose administration the country has enjoyed uninterrupted peace. There has been no expansion of a foreign power's territorial presence in our country, and economic intervention has also been brought to a halt”, he noted.
“We are the first government that can take pride in these achievements. This is the outcome of our pragmatic and principled policy”, Kobakhidze concluded.
