Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Friday responded to a journalist’s question regarding US Congressman Joe Wilson’s recent statement, highlighting that a million-dollar contract has reportedly been signed for related activities.
Papuashvili’s remarks came after Wilson posted on social media claiming that an amendment was included in a US State Department authorization act concerning the non-recognition of the Georgian Dream Government.
The Speaker characterised such actions as an attempt to create informational noise.
“If I am not mistaken, for over a year now, the so-called ‘friendship act’ [MEGOBARI Act] - or rather a hostile Act - has been circulating in various offices. Since it became clear that this Act would never see the light of day, a new idea has emerged to secure funding through a million-dollar contract”, he noted.
“The same actors are involved: we see Congressman Wilson, a journalist with an Azerbaijani surname working for Kyiv media but residing in Washington. Even the structure of this person’s involvement shows that they are merely a hired mouthpiece, intended to generate such informational noise. This noise will pass, but what will they do next? All of these hostile initiatives ultimately meet the same fate as those before them”, Papuashvili concluded.
