A Georgian citizen Giorgi Mosiashvili, who was illegally detained by Russian occupying forces, was released, the Georgian Security Service said on Thursday.

In a statement, the Service noted that the process of releasing Mosiashvili from illegal imprisonment actively involved both the hotline mechanism operating with the direct involvement of the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia and all relevant tools available for the central Government.

“The Georgian central Government has been providing information to international partners on a regular basis. The issue was discussed both at meetings held within the framework of the incident prevention and response mechanism format, as well as at Geneva International Discussions. The central Government, together with international partners, continues to work actively to release all Georgian citizens illegally detained in the Russian-occupied territories”, the Statement said.

The statement further added that responsibility for all destructive actions committed on the occupied territories of Georgia, as well as along the occupation line, rested with the Russian occupying forces.
