As part of his official visit to the United States, Levan Davitashvili, Georgia's First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, held a high-level meeting at the White House with Andrew Peek, the Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for European Affairs at the US National Security Council.
“The meeting held at the White House was exceptionally significant and symbolic within the context of our visit to the United States. It was crucial to discuss our Government's priorities - priorities of the Georgian Dream administration - that are fully aligned with President Trump’s strategic vision. Given this strong alignment of positions, we believe there are numerous opportunities for future cooperation between our countries. We discussed the opportunities that our two countries may have under the new [US] administration”, the First Vice Prime Minister said.
Davitashvili further noted that it was regrettable that the strategic partnership agreement between the two countries had been formally suspended under the previous US administration.
“There is a very firm position within the new administration's leadership that this strategic cooperation should not only continue but also deepen further and move to a qualitatively new stage, which will be practically beneficial for both countries”, he continued.
During his visit, the First Vice Prime Minister also held meetings at the US Department of State, Department of Commerce, Department of the Treasury, and the Office of the United States Trade Representative, as well as with top management representatives from the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
