Renowned Georgian opera singer Iano Alibegashvili was decorated with the prestigious Order of the Star of Italy, recognising her significant contributions to the promotion of Italian opera in Georgia and the strengthening of bilateral cultural relations.
The high honor was presented to the brilliant soprano on Monday at the Italian Ambassador's Residence in the presence of numerous cultural figures. Italian Ambassador Massimiliano D'Antuono conferred the distinguished decoration, which is one of the highest awards of Italy.
The Order was bestowed upon Alibegashvili - who is recognised as one of the world's finest sopranos - by the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella, following a nomination by the Italian Embassy in Georgia. The recognition specifically honours her efforts in the dissemination and popularisation of Italian opera singing in Georgia, which is recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage, as well as her role in fostering close ties between the two nations.
“This award is an appreciation of the contribution of an extraordinary singer, Iano Alibegashvili, to strengthening cultural relations between Italy and Georgia through her invaluable activities - the popularisation of Italian opera music and the organisation of numerous musical events in Georgia featuring wonderful Italian performers”, said Ambassador D'Antuono.
