Based on a joint nomination by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Chairman of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili, President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili on Friday awarded state honors to representatives of the Georgian Defence Forces.

The Prime Minister congratulated the awardees on receiving the Order of Honor and Honor Medals and thanked them for their significant contribution to strengthening Georgia’s defence capabilities.

“Today, we are joined by commanders and leaders of our army, veterans of the 2008 war, and soldiers hardened through international missions who defended Georgia at the risk of their own lives and who now, from command positions, are building a modern Georgian army. It is important to highlight the fundamental results achieved under your leadership. The General Staff has introduced modern NATO-standard doctrines and effective crisis management mechanisms. The historic reform of conscript military service is being successfully implemented”, the PM said.

“New 6- and 8-month combat training programs are already a reality, creating a strong and professional reserve. A new, transparent, and efficient recruitment and conscription system has been established, increasing the prestige of military service among young people. Today, our cadets receive education at a European level, while the junior officers’ school and reserve programs ensure the intellectual future of the armed forces. A completely new system of sergeant education is now in place in Georgia, directly impacting the combat morale of every soldier”, he continued.

In his address, Kobakhidze noted that the defense forces had experienced war and know better than anyone the value of peace.

“This experience, combined with patriotism and professionalism, makes you the strongest and most reliable guarantees of Georgia’s security. Building a modern and strong Georgian army means building peace. Your loyalty to the homeland and dignified service are the best examples for every citizen. Thank you for your service. Congratulations on your well-deserved awards and on the upcoming Christmas and New Year. I wish that 2026 brings victories, peace, and progress for each of you and for all of Georgia”, the PM concluded.
