Allied countries of NATO have reassessed certain aspects of their relationship with Georgia following the 2024 parliamentary elections, while cooperation with the country’s defence forces continues to progress. This is stated in the 2025 annual report by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
According to the document, a large team of NATO advisors is actively working with Georgian partners to strengthen defence capabilities, enhance capacity, and improve interoperability.
“The Allies reviewed NATO’s engagement with Georgia in light of the 2024 parliamentary elections and subsequent developments. As a result, the priorities of NATO-Georgia cooperation were recalibrated, including certain aspects of the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package”, the report says.
At the same time, cooperation with the Georgian Defence Forces continues to move forward, highlighted by joint NATO-Georgia exercises held in May.
The NATO Liaison Office in Tbilisi has also maintained active engagement with all three partner countries in the South Caucasus region, the report notes.
