Tamar Ioseliani, the Georgian Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, on Wednesday emphasised the country’s record figures for freight transportation in the first seven months of 2026, adding growth was being recorded in ports, railways and aviation.
In her remarks, Ioseliani noted that the government's task was to turn growing cargo flows into a long-term economic opportunity for the country, consistently increasing both the capacity, efficiency and competitiveness of Georgia’s transport system.
“According to the data for the first seven months of 2026, we have record figures for freight transportation in Georgia for the last decade, and growth is being recorded both in ports, as well as in railways and aviation. The growth is systemic and covers all main areas. I will give an example of ports, where the processing of all major types of cargo has increased. It is also necessary to emphasize the growth on the railway, where cargo has increased in all modes of transportation, both in transit, import, export and local transportation”, the Deputy Minister said.
“It is precisely such consistent and generally multifaceted growth that shows that this result is not a one-time thing and is based on the changes and reforms that have been implemented in the transport sector in general, as well as investments in infrastructure, generally effective management and a consistent transport policy of the country”, she continued.
As Ioseliani added, for the growing transit flows to serve the sustainable development of the country, systematic work was actively continuing.
“Our task is to maintain these dynamics and turn the growing cargo flows into a long-term economic opportunity for the country, for which we are consistently increasing both the capacity of the Georgian transport system, as well as its efficiency and competitiveness in general”, she concluded.
