Mamuka Mdinaradze, the Executive Secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Saturday said the ruling party would not act on directives from the outside.
In his speech at a campaign meeting in Georgia’s eastern city of Telavi, Mdinaradze noted that all of Georgia would triumph over those who “act against the country’s interests”.
“We are definitely not going to bend our heads, act according to directives, put aside the country's interests in exchange for our own guarantees, or hop on one foot [on our path to Europe]”, Mdinaradze said.
“We will act proudly and firmly based solely on Georgia's interests. On October 26, the entire Georgia will win over those who act against its interests. Therefore, by maintaining our identity towards Europe. Only with peace, only with dignity and only with prosperity”, he continued.
Mdinaradze highlighted that the Kakheti region’s history was one of struggle and heroism for the “homeland, native language, and faith”.
“Perhaps no one could have imagined that we would face this problem in the modern, civilised world”, Mdinaradze told the rally.
He further emphasised that the Georgian Dream party and Georgian citizens were facing not only an “agent network” posing as opposition politicians, but their patrons who “seek to use our country as a sacrificial pawn on a very big global chessboard”.
“Their [the opposition] task is not reconciliation [with Abkhazians and Ossetians], unity and peace and prosperity, their task is to sell and sacrifice their homeland to the interests of others, which we will never allow”, Mdinaradze concluded.
