Smartmatic official: election process in Georgia running smoothly from verification to voting

Alexander Rakov, the international observer at Georgia’s ongoing local elections and regional development director of Smartmatic, the global leader in secure election technology, on Saturday said the election process was proceeding smoothly and effectively, from the verification procedures to the voting process.

In his remarks, Rakov emphasised that the process was efficient, and voters were well-informed about electronic technologies.

“Since this morning, we have monitored two different polling stations across Tbilisi. The process we observed is proceeding smoothly and effectively, from the verification procedures to the voting process. It is worth noting the voters’ awareness of electronic technologies. The process is indeed running effectively”, Rakov said.

Smartmatic is a company whose technologies and services are used by the Central Election Commission of Georgia to conduct elections electronically.

Local self-government elections are currently taking place in Georgia. Citizens are electing representatives for a four-year term to the municipal representative bodies - the Sakrebulo - as well as the mayor of the self-governing city or community.
Sakrebulo elections are conducted based on both majoritarian and proportional electoral systems.

Georgian citizens will elect 2,058 members to 64 Sakrebulos, through both proportional and majoritarian systems, along with 64 mayors.
