Georgia-EU relations high on agenda of parliamentary delegation’s Belgium visit

Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Georgian Parliament, said on Wednesday that the current state of relations between Georgia and the European Union was in the interests of neither side, commenting on the Georgian parliamentary delegation’s visit to Belgium.
Samkharadze said discussions during the visit focused on Georgia-EU relations and emphasised that the European Union had formally suspended the country’s integration process.
“We discussed Georgia-EU relations and clearly stressed that the current situation is in neither our interest nor the EU’s interest”, Samkharadze said.
He added that the delegation had urged the Speakers of both chambers of the Belgian Parliament to help facilitate the restoration of dialogue between Georgia and the European Union.
“Our message to the Speakers of both chambers of the Belgian Parliament was that they should help facilitate the restoration of dialogue with the European Union”, he noted.
Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili is visiting Brussels with a parliamentary delegation.
As part of the visit, Papuashvili held meetings with the Presidents of the Senate and the Chamber of Representatives of the Federal Parliament of Belgium.
