Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Monday wished Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his party success, saying Georgia attaches great importance to the positive dynamics emerging in the South Caucasus.

In his remarks, Papuashvili noted that the path toward a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the opening of borders, and the ongoing dialogue between Azerbaijani and Armenia were important developments for the region.

“We wish Nikol Pashinyan and his party success. What is important for Georgia is the new dynamic that exists in the region - the path toward a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, open borders, and the ongoing dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan”, he said.

“Peace and stability in the region are important for us, and Georgia alone cannot ensure them. It is important that all countries in the region are committed to this goal. Nikol Pashinyan’s pledge was precisely to secure peace and stability for Armenia, which ultimately means peace for the entire region. This, in turn, will contribute to the prosperity and well-being of every state and nation in the region”, Papuashvili concluded.

Armenia held parliamentary elections on Sunday, Pashinyan's ruling Civil Contract party securing the largest share of the vote, according to preliminary results. Pashinyan declared victory, describing the outcome as a mandate to continue his government's policies.
