Georgia’s relations with EU to improve soon, says Georgian Parliament Vice Speaker

Georgia’s relationship with the European Union will soon get back on track, said on Saturday Thea Tsulukiani, the Vice Speaker of the Georgian Parliament.

During an appearance on the political talk show Open Air - Debates, Tsulukiani expressed confidence that Brussels will return to its traditional relations with Georgia as soon as regional tensions ease and the ongoing war comes to an end.

She emphasised that Georgia has firm “red lines” that the Government will not cross, specifically regarding national identity and territorial integrity.

“There are red lines: sovereignty, national interest, territorial integrity. Should we enter the EU and just forget about Shida Kartli and Abkhazia? Are we supposed to agree to that?! There are things we call red lines - our children, our culture, and our national mentality must be protected”, Tsulukiani stated.

The Vice Speaker maintained that the ruling Georgian Dream party continues to move the country forward through consistent reforms. She argued that on a technical level, Georgia’s progress outpaces other candidate states, even if recent political dynamics have obscured that fact.

Tsulukiani noted that official documents from the European Union and the European Commission itself prove Georgia is ahead of Moldova and Ukraine in terms of reforms.

According to her, this progress is currently not being acknowledged because Brussels has realized Georgia will not compromise its autonomy.

“They are not acknowledging it today, unlike in previous periods, because Brussels has seen that we will not be errand boys at any cost. Let them look for errand boys in other countries”, Tsulukiani concluded.
