Former Chief Prosecutor Otar Partskhaladze charged in connection with Levan Jangveladze murder case

Former Chief Prosecutor Otar Partskhaladze has been formally charged in connection with the murder of Levan Jangveladze, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Alexander Darakhvelidze on Monday announced during a press briefing.

According to Darakhvelidze, the investigation into Jangveladze’s murder has been fully resolved.

“Based on hundreds of investigative actions conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, we have established who led the organised group responsible for the contract killing of Levan Jangveladze. Accordingly, we can declare this criminal case fully solved in this regard”, Darakhvelidze stated.

According to the announcement, the evidence collected by law enforcement has led the Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia to issue a ruling to indict Otar Partskhaladze as a suspect.

The investigation revealed that over time, a criminal group led by Partskhaladze, together with his trusted associates, brothers David and Giorgi Mikadze, had ongoing disputes with Jangveladze over business matters. Acting on behalf of this group, they orchestrated the murder of Jangveladze and others involved in long-standing conflicts with him.

Partskhaladze, as the undisputed leader of the criminal group, directed the killing. Following his instructions, the Mikadze brothers contacted their trusted associate, Giorgi Jokhadze, and shared the plan for the murder. To execute the plan, they recruited Gela Udzilauri, a former security officer for Jokhadze. The group also obtained detailed information about Jangveladze’s arrival and movements in Georgia. On March 14, 2025, Udzilauri carried out the premeditated murder of Jangveladze on Chavchavadze Avenue in Tbilisi and injured an accompanying individual with the same firearm.

The investigation included numerous procedural and investigative actions, dozens of expert examinations, witness interviews, and seizure of multiple pieces of evidence. The case yielded conclusive proof implicating both the group leader and its members in Jangveladze’s murder.

It is publicly known that Udzilauri, the direct perpetrator, was arrested shortly after the killing and sentenced to life imprisonment by the court on October 24, 2025. Other suspects include Giorgi Mikadze, Mamuka Baghdavadze, and Giorgi Kachkachashvili. David Mikadze and Giorgi Jokhadze are currently wanted. Additionally, Sandro Tsivtsivadze, a former associate whose name was previously linked to the murder weapon, has been detained. The trial of the accused is ongoing at the Tbilisi City Court.

Regarding the leader of the criminal group, Otar Partskhaladze, he has been charged with organising the premeditated murder of Levan Jangveladze for hire. The law stipulates a punishment ranging from 16 to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment. The prosecution will request detention for Partskhaladze and an international arrest warrant will be issued against him
