Georgian President highlights national security as foundation of “state sovereignty, peace, development”

Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Saturday participated in a ceremonial event marking the 11th anniversary of the State Security Service, emphasising that national security serves as the fundamental pillar for state sovereignty, peace, and sustainable progress.
The official anniversary event also featured speeches by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.
In his address, Kavelashvili underscored that modern national security extends far beyond traditional defence, encompassing defence against hybrid threats, cyberattacks, information warfare, and psychological manipulation aimed at dividing society and weakening state institutions.
The President stressed that, in this environment, the effective functioning of the State Security Service was essential, as protecting national security was closely linked to safeguarding constitutional order, maintaining internal stability and strengthening public confidence.
In his address, Kavelashvili also emphasised the agency’s role in combating transnational crime, terrorism and corruption, as well as preventing attempts to destabilise the country and overthrow the constitutional order.
Concluding his speech, the President paid tribute to members of the State Security Service who lost their lives while protecting Georgia’s peace and security and thanked the agency’s personnel for their professionalism and dedication in serving the country.
