Georgia, US discuss bilateral relations following appointment of new Chargé d’Affaires

Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili said on Friday that the appointment of the new US Chargé d’Affaires was part of a routine diplomatic rotation, adding that she had already met with the diplomat to discuss the current state of Georgia-United States relations.
In her interview with Imedi TV, Botchorishvili noted that she met with the new envoy at the earliest opportunity, with the two sides discussing recent developments in bilateral relations and prospects for future cooperation.
“This is a routine diplomatic rotation that has taken place. A new staff member has arrived at the Embassy of the United States of America who will assume the duties of Chargé d’Affaires. At the very first opportunity I had a meeting with him, and we discussed the dynamics of Georgia-US relations”, she said.
The Minister emphasised that Georgia had observed positive signs in recent months regarding the development of relations with the United States and reiterated the government’s commitment to building ties based on mutual respect and a substantive strategic partnership.
“In recent months, of course, there have been positive signs of an improvement in our relations. We have repeatedly stated our position on what we expect in relations with the United States of America. Our desire is for this relationship to be based on mutual respect, healthy, and for the strategic partnership to be filled with substance. Of course, we will continue working in this direction with the American side”, Botchorishvili noted.
“Naturally, the recent activities on Washington’s part are welcome, as they to a certain extent also give the Georgian side the opportunity for the Georgian authorities to present their positions to the United States of America”, she concluded.
