Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday nominated Tamaz Borashvili as the new Head of the State Security Service.

Borashvili’s career has been closely linked to the State Security Service.

He served for years as Director of the SSS’s State Security Department and, since September 4, 2025, has held the position of Deputy Head of the State Security Service.

The nomination follows the resignation of Geka Geladze, who announced on Monday that he had decided to step down as head of the SSS.

Geladze said that, following consultations with the political team, he would continue his work at another agency.
