Georgian FM: Canada visit provided important opportunity to discuss bilateral relations, common challenges

Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Tuesday summed up her visit to Canada and bilateral meetings, saying the trip provided an important opportunity to discuss bilateral relations, common challenges and cooperation, as well as the future development of Canada-EU relations.

In her remarks, Botchorishvili stressed the importance of achieving peace based on international rules and international law.

“This is a message that Georgia has consistently voiced, not only with regard to Ukraine. In our own case, when we speak about the occupation, Georgia’s position must consistently be voiced that the only way we see to resolve the conflict is through peaceful means”, she noted.

“We are in Canada, and we should not have missed this opportunity. Bilateral visits between our countries are not often exchanged, so it was a good opportunity to meet with the Foreign Minister and discuss relations between our countries, common challenges and our views on the global situation, as well as areas where we can cooperate. We also discussed the European Union. You know how important a partner the EU is for Georgia. We are an associated country of the European Union. Canada-EU relations are of particular interest to us, and we are closely following how this partnership will develop”, Botchorishvili concluded.

Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili is participating, at the invitation of Canada’s Foreign Minister, in the second international conference dedicated to the return of Ukrainian children, detained civilians and prisoners of war. Bilateral meetings between the two foreign ministers are also scheduled as part of the event.
