Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday said the funding of the United States Agency for International Development was not used for charitable purposes but rather to stage revolutions, incite unrest, and destabilise countries, including Georgia.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted that the United States Government was now officially acknowledging what the Georgian Government had already pointed out in the spring of 2023.
“What we were saying in the spring of 2023 is now being officially stated by the United States Government. Specifically, USAID funding was not directed toward real, charitable purposes. Instead, it was used to stage revolutions, create unrest, and destabilise countries, including Georgia. Of course, this matter requires further investigation”, the PM said.
The PM welcomed the three-month suspension of USAID funding, stating that it was crucial for preventing further destabilisation efforts.
“We are pleased that USAID funding has been suspended for three months. The most important thing for us is that this suspension remains in place, as it would be crucial to ensuring that USAID never again attempts to destabilise our country, falsify parallel vote counts, or directly support revolutionary processes. We hope that the three-month suspension mechanism will remain in effect”, he concluded.
