Ruling party official denounces EU Representative's statement as “blatant interference”

Mamuka Mdinaradze, the Executive Secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Monday strongly criticised a recent statement made by the European Union's High Representative Kaja Kallas, calling it a gross interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign nation and an “anti-Georgian” remark.

Kallas had previously expressed concerns over the detention of individuals in Georgia, stating that “we are concerned about the arrests of people in Georgia and are putting pressure on those responsible for violence against peaceful protesters”.

“This is not just interference in the country's affairs, this is a gross interference in the internal affairs and interests of a sovereign country, going against this country, and the most anti-Georgian statement that a politician can make in today's modern world”, the ruling party official said.

He further criticised what he described as a “double standard” in the EU’s approach.

“I will not name a specific country, but when hundreds of people are dying elsewhere, there is absolutely no reaction to this, and I will repeat often, you sanction Lasha Talakhadze for aggression, you are concerned about something that is not only not alarming but is the right action for crime prevention, this indicates at least double standards, which is very regrettable”, he continued.

Mdinaradze further accused the “Euro-bureaucracy” of frequently making statements based on double standards.
