Georgian Parliament Speaker: presented budget reflects Gov’t’s policy to prioritise citizens over external pressure

Georgia’s 2026 budget reflects the Government’s policy of resisting external pressures and protecting its citizens, while also demonstrating economic growth, said on Wednesday Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.

In his remarks, Papuashvili noted that despite attempts by external and internal adversaries to impose their agenda on Georgia and harm the Georgian people, the Government implemented a sound policy “reflected in the increased figures of the state budget”.

“The presented budget shows how correct the Government’s policy is - refusing to follow external directives and avoiding harm to its own people. In reality, there are ongoing attempts to steer Georgia toward confrontation and escalation, not only with Russia but with various other actors, and thereby undermine the economy”, he said.

“The Georgian Government does not follow these adversarial recommendations; it follows the national interest of the Georgian people. This is why the budget has increased. As a result, in 2026 the Government will have the opportunity to implement more projects across infrastructure, education, and social sectors. In all areas, we will have a stronger budget. Most importantly, this budget reflects economic growth. Our growth is leap-like compared to overall growth rates on the continent”, the Speaker concluded.

The Georgian Parliament is discussing the country’s main financial document during a plenary session on Wednesday.

The 2026 budget has increased by ₾3 billion, with priority sectors including social services, education, culture and sports, defense and security, infrastructure, support for small and medium-sized businesses, and agriculture.

Within the framework of the 2026 budget, pensions will rise, and public sector salaries will increase.
