Georgia’s ruling party official: EU acting with Soviet methods, Donald Trump assesses this very objectively

Irakli Kirtskhalia, the Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Wednesday claimed that the European Union was demonstrating “Soviet methods”, adding that the United States President Donald Trump’s recent remarks reflected this reality objectively.

In his remarks, Kirtskhalia noted that Georgia’s own experiences with “lies and double standards” on the part of the EU since 2022 made Trump’s assessment impossible to dispute.

“We have experienced firsthand the flood of lies and double standards directed at our country, especially since 2022. Therefore, we have no right to disagree with Trump’s statement”, he said.

The official argued that growing dissatisfaction within EU member states showed that citizens were resisting pressure on issues of national identity, free expression, and sovereignty.

“We have said many times that even within EU member states, new political forces are emerging, and society is raising its voice. We see repressive attitudes from their own governments toward free thought, national identity, and sovereignty. We can say that today Brussels is acting with the best Soviet methods, and Trump evaluates this very objectively”, Kirtskhalia concluded.

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Wednesday said that concerns Tbilisi had been raising with Brussels for years were now being openly acknowledged by the European Union’s key partner and main security guarantor - the United States.
