Georgian Parliament Speaker says all steps taken by Georgian Gov’t driven by national interests, not outside influence

Every decision we make, every step we take, is guided by our national interests, not by anyone else’s directives, said on Tuesday Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.
In his remarks, Papuashvili explained that Georgia’s national interests include the restoration of the country’s territorial integrity and the well-being of its people.
“Our national interests are the restoration of our country’s territorial integrity and the prosperity of our citizens. The concept of our country’s integrity also encompasses sovereignty. Therefore, anyone who does not respect our sovereignty - whether from the north, east, west, or south, regardless of geography - will face corresponding responses”, the Speaker said.
“Russia does not respect our sovereignty, and our position is clear: we do not have diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation, and the conditions for restoring relations have been stated clearly. The precondition is the restoration of our territorial integrity and respect for our sovereignty. Does Brussels not respect our sovereignty? We will point this out as well. As soon as the sovereignty of the Georgian people is respected, our relations will naturally be arranged differently”, he concluded.
