Georgian FM expresses concern about spread of false information, wishes Donald Trump success in fight for truth

Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Tuesday expressed concern over the trend of media outlets disseminating false information and voiced support for the United States President Donald Trump’s efforts to challenge inaccuracies.
In her remarks, Botchorishvili stressed that the deliberate spread of falsehoods by influential media organisations undermined public trust and complicated the communication of truth to society.
“It is concerning when the spread of falsehoods by a media outlet with a high reputation becomes a trend - when information that does not reflect the truth is presented to the public. This is a problem faced not only by Georgia”, she said.
The Minister underscored that such challenges were evident worldwide, referencing Trump’s legal action against the BBC as an example.
“As we can see, the statement by the President of the United States once again demonstrates the scale of the challenge confronting the international community as a whole when we talk about the media, the delivery of information by the media, and, in general, conveying the truth to society. I wish him success in the fight for the truth”, she concluded.
According to Fox News, Donald Trump has filed a $10 billion lawsuit against the BBC, related to the editing of his remarks in a documentary film about the events of January 6.
