Georgia’s ruling party official: Georgia’s positions fully align with Trump administration

Levan Machavariani, the First Deputy Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Wednesday said that since Donald Trump assumed office in the Oval Office, Georgia’s positions had been fully aligned with those of the United States on key political and value-based issues.

In his interview with Imedi TV, Machavariani emphasised that this alignment went beyond attitudes toward European bureaucracy and extended to values, the war in Ukraine, and broader international developments.

“We can see that ever since Mr. Donald Trump took office in the Oval Office, there has been absolute and full alignment in our positions - not only in relation to Eurocrats, but also in terms of values, the war, and Ukraine. Practically, there is no divergence on any issue”, he said.

The official commented on recent US sanctions imposed on European politicians and noted that these measures highlight serious concerns about censorship and the suppression of dissenting opinions within the European Union.

“When the United States is now teaching the European Union and Eurocrats what true European values are, the issue of censorship and the suppression of dissenting opinions is being raised very sharply. These sanctions were aimed precisely at that. It is very good - by the boomerang principle, the unfair decisions made against our country are coming back to them”, he noted.

He added that criticism of the EU’s actions was no longer coming solely from Georgia, but increasingly from other actors as well.

“Eurocrats should think carefully, because these grievances and fact- and argument-based accusations are no longer coming only from Georgia. Once again, I would like to remind viewers that we are not attacking anyone; we were simply obliged to respond to the injustice coming from there, since we are not a low fence for anyone. Accordingly, we demand equal treatment from any partner”, Machavariani concluded.
