Georgia’s ruling party official: time for society to wake up from geopolitical illusions

Levan Machavariani, the First Deputy Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Wednesday said that Georgian society should reassess what he described as “geopolitical illusions” and pay attention to the growing criticism voiced by the United States toward Eurocrats who, according to him, have taken a hostile stance toward Georgia.

In his remarks, Machavariani noted that what he called an unfair approach toward Georgia began under the former US administration and Eurocrats from the very start of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

“An absolutely unfair approach toward us began from the former US administration and these Eurocrats from the very day Russia’s aggression against Ukraine started, because we did not become the kind of satellite state that, unfortunately, Ukraine was used as”, he said.

The official argued that public protests and political tensions over recent years were the result of misinformation and unfounded accusations, adding that the ruling Georgian Dream party had consistently proven its correctness.

“Over these four years, our society has been misled on many issues, but after four years the time has come for the part of society that was misled to start thinking a bit more critically. Anyone who looks back at my posts will clearly recall, in chronological order, what accusations were being made over these four years and why our society was stirred up, why protests were organised, and so on”, he noted.

“The ruling Georgian Dream party has proven to be right, and on any issue I have listed, I can sit down with absolutely anyone for a debate and prove, with full responsibility, that we are right on absolutely everything”, he continued.

Machavariani concluded that the time had come for society to reassess global political narratives and closely follow current developments in international relations.

“The time has come for our society to wake up from geopolitical illusions, and for those who did not believe us to now follow what messages the United States is sending and what claims it has toward the Eurocrats who treat our country so hostilely and are trying to somehow replace the Georgian Dream with agents, because those agents would carry out their instructions. What they need here, of course, is a puppet Government, a Government like the one they have installed in Ukraine”, he said.
