Georgian Parliament official: EU’s unelected bureaucracy lacks respect for countries, Georgians should not rely on its statements

Archil Gorduladze, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee, on Friday said that the current unelected bureaucracy of the European Union lacked respect for countries and equal treatment, and “Georgian society should not expect fair decisions from it”.

In his remarks, Gorduladze noted that EU bureaucrats had repeatedly been exposed with facts for spreading falsehoods and attacking Georgia.

“We have exposed the Eurocracy multiple times with facts for lying and launching attacks against Georgia. The very same facts are commented on and highlighted by others as well, including the current administration of the United States. We see that within the EU’s unelected bureaucracy there is no pursuit of genuine interests, no respect for countries, and no equal treatment. In many cases, this bureaucracy has been exposed for corruption, and the international legal standards that once existed no longer function”, he said.

Gorduladze added that this bureaucracy shows no regard for state sovereignty or the protection of human rights.

“They have even gone so far as to claim that Moldova is somehow ahead of Georgia. This is an absolute falsehood that they are spreading. Accordingly, Georgian society should not place any hope in their statements or decisions”, the official continued.

At the same time, Gorduladze highlighted that Georgia continued to fulfill its obligations under bilateral agreements.

“For example, we are aligning our legislation with EU law, which is an ongoing process. The country’s top officials and our team’s leaders have repeatedly stated that by 2030 Georgia will be the most prepared candidate for EU membership. The rest is a political decision, and under the current bureaucracy, it is obvious that a decision in Georgia’s favor will not be made”, Gorduladze concluded.
