The Black Sea submarine cable project is considered a transformational initiative for Georgia, without which it would be difficult to fully utilise the country’s energy resources, said on Wednesday Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during a speech at the Leaders’ Dialogue at Abu Dhabi Sustainable Development Week.
In his speech, Kobakhidze noted that the project represents a mutually beneficial opportunity that will allow Georgia to increase its electricity generation capacity.
“We consider the Black Sea submarine cable project to be a transformational project. It is a very ambitious and realistic project. We have conducted a feasibility study. This project is technically feasible, therefore, we are very optimistic about this direction. The Black Sea cable is 1,155 kilometers long and will connect Georgia with the European energy market. In particular, through South-Eastern Europe, Romania. We will increase our productivity in the generation direction and we will have electricity generated for export. We will also enter other markets in Europe”, Kobakhidze said.
“Without the implementation of this project, it would be difficult for us to fully utilize our energy resources. Therefore, we attach great importance to this project and are glad that the European Commission has included this project in its list of priorities. This is a project of common interest and we are even more optimistic about the implementation of this project”, he concluded.
