Georgian PM reaffirms Gov't’s long-standing commitment to defend national sovereignty

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said the amendments to the Law on Grants aimed to safeguard the country’s sovereignty from external interference.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted that his Government had a long-standing record of successfully defending Georgia’s sovereignty and intended to maintain this course in the future.
“We must safeguard our country’s sovereignty from the risks of external interference, and this draft law also serves that purpose”, he said.
The Prime Minister pointed out that recent public statements by representatives of European institutions about seeking ways to bypass Georgian law demonstrated the necessity of strengthening legal mechanisms.
“This is exactly what the initiatives we have submitted to Parliament are aimed at. You have seen the statement by one of the European Commissioners saying that they are looking for ways to bypass the law. The matter is simple: the law that has been initiated is intended to close such mechanisms. Politics must not be financed in our country, neither directly nor indirectly. When there are open and blatant announcements of violations of the law, measures must be taken”, he concluded.
