Georgian Parliament Speaker questions Kaja Kallas’ standing in international diplomacy

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Wednesday criticised Brussels and the European Union’s foreign policy, arguing that the EU is making repeated mistakes due to what he described as a lack of professionalism and qualification among its officials.

In his interview with Imedi TV, Papuashvili noted that the calculations and expectations of EU officials have failed to materialise.

“In all the difficulties that we are currently witnessing in relation to Brussels, the positive aspect is that we are dealing with such unqualified people and such an immature foreign policy. We see mistake after mistake being made. Their calculations are not being fulfilled, so in this regard we remain calm because we are dealing with highly unprofessional people”, the Speaker said.

He also criticised EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, claiming that her influence on the international stage is limited.

“Today, the European Union’s foreign policy is entrusted to a person whose minister participated in rallies in Georgia. I am referring to Kaja Kallas. She is a person whom the foreign minister of the United States, the EU’s main partner, has not even met. Marco Rubio has been Secretary of State for some time now, and he has not met Kaja Kallas even once, despite requests and despite her visits to Washington”, he added.

Commenting on the EU’s intentions toward Georgia, Papuashvili claimed that Brussels seeks a return to the political situation that existed on October 4. He further alleged that the European Union encouraged violent developments in Georgia and supported a gathering at which violence had been anticipated.
