Georgian fencing legend Guram Kostava dies at 87

Georgian fencing legend Guram Kostava died on Wednesday at the age of 87.
The Georgian Fencing Federation expressed its grief over the death of Kostava.
“After leaving his active sports career with glory, Guram Kostava was always where Georgian fencing needed him. He was extremely fond of fencing and a fan of every fencer”, the Federation said.
Kostava was a two-time world champion in the fencing team competition, a two-time runner-up and a two-time third place prize-winner.
In 1960, at the Rome Olympic Games, he became the third-place prize-winner in the team competition.
He became the third-place prize-winner of the 1964 Tokyo Olympics in the individual category, the champion of the Soviet Union in the individual category and the winner of the Soviet Union Cup.
Kostava received the title of Knight of Sports in 2016.
