Georgian Prime Minister proposes highest state honour for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia following Champions League triumph

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday announced his Government’s intention to nominate football star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia for the Saint George's Order of Victory - one of the highest state honours in Georgia - in recognition of his outstanding achievements in international football.
Speaking at today’s Government meeting, the Prime Minister once again congratulated Kvaratskhelia on winning the UEFA Champions League, calling it the “pinnacle of football success”.
“This is the highest peak in football, and naturally, it is a source of immense pride for every one of us. His victory was felt as a victory for the entire nation. Alongside congratulating him, we also owe him our deep gratitude for bringing such a great triumph to our country. I am confident that this is only the beginning of many more remarkable accomplishments Khvicha will achieve. I want to wish him continued success in his career”, the PM said.
Kobakhidze highlighted Georgia’s tradition of honoring athletes who reach significant milestones with the country’s highest state awards.
“Winning the Champions League is exactly the kind of historic achievement that deserves such recognition. Last year, Khvicha received the Order of Honour for his success with the national team. Now, we want to nominate him for the Order of Victory of St. George for winning the Champions League”, he noted.
The Prime Minister emphasised that the decision had been made unanimously following consultations with the President of Georgia and the Speaker of Parliament.
