UN Tourism Chief praises Georgian Gov’t’s efforts to promote tourism

UN Tourism Secretary General Shaikha Al Nuwais said on Thursday that the Georgian Government was making significant efforts to promote the country and ensure that Georgia received the international attention it deserved.
She noted that this was her first visit to Georgia, and specifically to Tbilisi, since taking office.
“I believe that the Government is doing a lot to promote the country and ensure that Georgia receives the attention it deserves”, Al Nuwais said.
“We had an excellent meeting with representatives of the private sector, particularly those working in tourism. It was very interesting for us to discuss their views and hear about the growth Georgia has experienced over the years”, she noted.
According to the UN Tourism Secretary General, Georgia recorded significant growth in 2025 compared to 2024, welcoming approximately 8 million international visitors.
“There was significant growth in 2025 compared to 2024. The country welcomed approximately 8 million international visitors. Despite the geopolitical challenges in the Middle East, Georgia was still able to record growth in the first half of 2026, which is excellent”, she concluded.
