Georgian Economy Minister: passenger traffic hits all-time high across Georgia’s international airports

Georgian Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili on Friday hailed record passenger traffic figures for the country’s aviation sector, noting that Georgia’s three international airports had served more than 5.7 million passengers this year.
Speaking to Imedi TV, Kvrivishvili said Georgia’s aviation industry was continuing to expand despite global and regional challenges, with this year’s statistics reflecting sustained growth.
“We attach great importance to the aviation sector. Despite the challenges, it is encouraging that we continue to see record-breaking trends in aviation. Passenger traffic reached a record high this year, with more than 5.7 million passengers served across all three international airports. The upward trend continues, which means the state must be prepared for further growth”, Kvrivishvili said.
The Minister also highlighted ongoing infrastructure upgrades at Kutaisi International Airport, noting that construction of a new runway was in its final stage.
“A major state-funded investment project worth ₾240 million ($92.3 million) is underway at Kutaisi International Airport. As part of the project, we are building a brand-new runway that will be the longest among Georgia’s three international airports. Following its completion, we will begin preparations later this year for the expansion of the passenger terminal”, she said.
Kvrivishvili added that the airport currently handles about 2.5 million passengers annually and is expected to significantly increase its capacity.
“We currently serve approximately 2.5 million passengers at Kutaisi International Airport, and we expect that capacity to double, as we are witnessing substantial growth in both tourist arrivals and passenger traffic”, she concluded.
