Georgian Economy Minister: consistent infrastructure development key to expanding Georgia’s transport network

Georgian Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili on Thursday said the government was placing special emphasis on the development of its transport sector, with port infrastructure representing one of its key components.
Kvrivishvili inspected ongoing activities at the Batumi Sea Port together with Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, where she met with port operators and reviewed the existing infrastructure.
“We are closely cooperating with the ports operating in Georgia in order to maximally contribute to the development of port infrastructure and to enable them to receive and process more cargo”, she said.
“It is especially encouraging that all port operators confirm that cargo turnover is reaching practically record levels - particularly at Batumi Port. Cargo volumes have increased across all categories, which once again demonstrates that Georgia continues to be a reliable partner. Consistent infrastructure development - whether in ports, railways, or roads - is fundamentally important for the advancement of our country’s transport network and for ensuring that the transport sector continues to make a significant contribution to Georgia’s economy”, she concluded.
