Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, accompanied by Infrastructure Minister Revaz Sokhadze, on Tuesday inspected ongoing construction works on the Shkmeri-Mravaldzali local road in Oni Municipality, emphasising the significance of the infrastructure project for the region.
At this stage, preparatory and mobilisation works are underway as part of the project, with full-scale road construction set to begin upon their completion. The project is being implemented by the Roads Department.
Kobakhidze noted that the implementation of the project would ensure safer and more comfortable travel for both local residents and tourists.
He also highlighted the development plan for a unique resort in Mravaldzali.
“The 9.5-kilometre section of the Shkmeri-Mravaldzali road will significantly reduce travel time between Shkmeri and Mravaldzali. We have ambitious plans for the development of Mravaldzali, which is a unique location with the potential to host a world-class resort. The Ministry of Economy is actively working on this initiative, and we are cooperating with Austrian partners to prepare a relevant master plan. Naturally, the construction of this road is of great importance for the successful implementation of these plans”, the PM said.
He added that the road construction works are expected to be completed within approximately two years.
