Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday said that the collective United National Movement should not be part of the country’s political system, arguing that its presence would prevent the healthy development of Georgia’s democracy.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted that the collective UNM had “no prospects” for the future, claiming the opposition group was weakened by internal divisions.
“This is a party that came in second even within this weakened opposition. They have no prospects whatsoever. There are internal confrontations, which ultimately reflect the weakness of the opposition. They even have conflicts within the party itself. All of this, of course, indicates their weakness, and it is important that these processes continue. Such political forces have no place in our political system, in a healthy democratic political system”, he said.
“The collective UNM should not be part of the political system. Otherwise, the political system cannot develop in a healthy way”, the Prime Minister concluded.
