Georgian FM, NATO Sec Gen’s special representative discuss NATO-Georgia relations, cooperation

Issues on the NATO-Georgia relations agenda were discussed on Thursday in a meeting between the Georgian foreign minister Maka Botchorishvili and newly appointed special representative of the NATO secretary general for the Caucasus and Central Asia, ambassador Kevin Hamilton.
The meeting focused on the significance of political dialogue and practical cooperation with the Alliance.
The officials emphasized NATO’s support for enhancing the country’s defence capabilities.
The sides particularly underlined the security environment in the South Caucasus region, global challenges and the importance of peace and stability for Georgia.
The meeting also discussed the situation in Georgia’s Russian-occupied territories.
Hamilton expressed gratitude to the Georgian side for its contribution to the strengthening of common Euro-Atlantic security and reaffirmed the Alliance’s unequivocal support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
As part of the visit, the NATO secretary general’s special representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia is scheduled to meet with Irakli Chikovani, the Georgian deputy prime minister and defence minister as well as to visit the occupation line near the village of Odzisi and the NATO-Georgia Joint Training and Evaluation Centre (JTEC).
